James Carroll
James Carroll has become one of my favorite people. I usually favor laid back folks with good heads on their shoulders and he fits the bill. (Having excellent taste in music doesn't hurt either.) You might know him from one of his short stories or his excellent reviews over at Page Horrific. I'm here to tell you that, now that PH is closed, you can read his reviews and other blog posts over at his own site Asylum Windows. And you can find that HERE.

"The Outsider Trio" Reviewed at Antibacterial Pope
Ending things is David T. Wilbanks' THE OUTSIDER TRIO. After two years, a man returns to proclaim his love for his girlfriend only to find she has been missing for six months. Malcom learns Violet (a professional violinist [sic]) has been kidnapped by some kind of cult-like musician, and with the help of an occult practitioner, manages to track her down, being held prisoner in another dimension. TRIO features some dark humor and all kinds of weird monsters, making for a fun way to wrap up a satisfying collection.

BLACK WINGS, edited by S.T. Joshi
The first book I read on my new Kindle was a great one. Old H.P. Lovecraft gets a makeover in these new stories of weird, cosmic horror. If you're a fan of the old master, you most likely clicked the purchase button the minute you found out that Lovecraft expert S.T. Joshi was the editor. But even if you don't have an inkling of who Joshi or Lovecraft is(!!!), there's still plenty here for you to enjoy. Joshi shows excellent taste in having acquired the majority of these tales; each author stepped up and brought something unique to the task. For me, it was interesting to see what great writers like Michael Marshall Smith and Brian Stableford had contributed. Things do seem to peter out a tiny bit towards the end but maybe that was just me petering out because I read this book straight through and I don't usually do that with an anthology--which is a hardy recommendation all on its own!
BLACK WINGS: Tales of Lovecraftian Horror is essential reading for lovers of Lovecraft and most definitely recommended to horror fiction fans in general.

KELL'S LEGEND by Andy Remic
I was browsing ye local Barnes & Noble at the Mall of America when I came across KELL'S LEGEND by Andy Remic. Actually, I spotted the third book in the trilogy first (a new release) which somehow prompted me to scurry deeper into the shelves to find the first one because these things MUST be read in order (I'm not sure if it was the packaging, the description or what; I don't usually buy books cold off the store shelf).
Well, time has passed and I've burned through its pages and must say it was ACTION-PACKED and very VIOLENT! Pure fun and all good things to this pulp-loving S.O.B.. Calling itself "Epic Fantasy," it reads like a muscular combo of sword & sorcery, steampunk and straight-up horror (MONSTERS!). The characters are bigger than life and many of them are very, VERY NASTY!
WARNING: This book is not for the squeamish nor the Politically Correct.
People who know me and like what I like will SURELY love this. Now I wait eagerly by the mailbox for the next two books because I need more of this FINE FARE.
HIGHEST ADVENTURE RATING!
